Michael Bevan is an absolute hellman. When i was still but a little tacker growing up in the mid nineties Australia had a pretty glorious team full of rippo's and potential superstars, however it often occurred that they did not have their own way. Top order batting collapses as Michael Slater lost his mind playing crazy pull shots, Mark Waugh lazily hanging his bat out to dry outside off stump in a James Dixonesque manner and the Mark Taylor struggled to get the run rate above 4 runs from 834834904902 balls meant that in order for us to have any chance of beating teams like the west indies, who still had intense hellmen like Curtley Ambrose bounding in and scaring the sheet out of people we needed some sort of saviour, a willow wielding messiah if you will. Michael Bevan was often this dude and he played some absolutely brilliant innings that filled my heart with joy. The apotheosis of these match saving Innings came in early 1996 on the sacred oval of grass that in revered as the SCG. These are the dying moments of the match when Bevan after scoring the multitude of Australia's runs in a relatively small run chase on an up and down pitch Bevan needed to strike the last ball to the boundary. Imagine being this dude. I have two versions, one of the whole last over and one of the last couple of balls, so damn good.
