Samurai Pizza Cats

How incredible was it growing up as a little tacker in the early to mid nineties. From the moment the sun rose in the east things were looking dreamy as TV shows like Agro's Cartoon Connection and Cheese TV were dedicated to bringing you the most glorious cartoons from around the globe. As i have gotten older and the demographic to which i belong has found itself in a position where it can look back upon these times with a sense of nostalgia, conversations and more predominantly categorical drinking games, where the aim is to name as many examples of the prescribes as you can, have began to focus on the animated pieces of art that filled our lives with such a sense of joy and hope that allowed us to believe that their is so much good in the world. Think back to titles such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Street Sharks, Biker Mice from Mars, Transformers, Heman, Ghost Busters and a Myriad of shows based on the Marvel Comic books and a Plethora of anime classics. One particular cartoon that has always stuck in my mind like a crafty little animated parasite has been one of these series adopted from anime, known only as the Samurai Pizza cats. This show is absolutely ridiculous. From its very inception the show has some serious structural flaws, that as a little nipper about to attend St Josephs Primary School i would have found extremely entertaining, however looking back now i unable to comprehend quite how the show worked. Firstly the show is based upon the basic dichotomy of humanized cats who during their run of their mill lives work as Pizza chefs, however at the first sign of trouble, go skits and start Samurai-ing the teets off people. As a result i find the very basis of the show extremely hard to believe. Since the cats are Samurai's residing in a town known as Little Tokyo, it is safe to say that they are extremely Japanese. As a result wouldn't the name Samurai Sushi Cats be far more appropriate. Pizza is hardly a Japanese dish and Samurais are renowned for their stringent following of Japanese traditions and as a result i doubt they would be so greatly involved in the process of capitalism and westernisation that would jeopardise the very culture they are sworn to protect. Furthermore cultural interaction between Italy and Japan during the time of the Samurai would have been extremely limited. I am no historian, yet i do not believe relations between these two nations have ever been particularly strong. There was a brief period during the second World War, where both Mussolini's Fascist regime and the Emperor of Japan were allied to Hitler and Nazi Germany, so that's where the whole concept of a Samurai Pizza cat may tie together, in an attempt to strengthen relations between these two war time allies. While historically inaccurate the show does hold one stroke of genius. The conflict in the plot revolves around a struggle for power in a state that borders on anarchy because of the inept management abilities of the local ruler. The reason however that this little king dude can not run his monarchical jurisdiction with complete conviction is because he has had his wisdom teeth removed by some Machiavellian character...too good. However this is all academic, for even is this show was designed simply as a tool for the reinstatement of the Third Reich, the point is it is out of control and i must have found it extremely entertaining.
