Winter of Content

The Winter Olympics is nothing short than out of control. This vanilla flavoured dream boat has come into my world at a much needed time and educated me on things on never though existed. Who ever thought that crossing your little ski's is so tech that it could be the difference between glorious gold, so-so silver and shameful bronze or that sliding down your ice on your tits could require skills so subtle that thousandths of a second are the only difference between competitors. The fact that i do not really understand any of the sports beyond their absolute basic concept has not acted as a deterrent at all, in fact it has only succeeded in spurring me on to skip surfs and lose sleep to find out whether it will be some Finnish Hell man or some Austrian Babe who will take out the Down Hill Slalom.

One thing i dig about the nature of a large portion of these sports is the subjectivity of their scoring system, which relies on points given by judges, not just goals scored, meters travelled or time spent completing a course, and the consequent propensity for the judges to lose their minds and massive upsets to occur or have competitors bowing up over the scores they lost over intricate little technical flaws like a finger nail touching the snow or ski's that were not perfectly parallel through 39402848 degree McDougall Flip with a twist.

It is clear that these strange little winter sports are not only intriguing to an uneducated man like myself, but are able to capture the imagination of millions of humans across the planet even if they do not know the difference between luge and moguls. The beguiling nature of these sports has not been lost on multinational corporations such as Disney and has resulted in some of the true underdog classics that have stayed with me since childhood. Before Cool Runnings and The Mighty Ducks i knew absolutely nothing about fanging around on skates after a puck or what it took to pilot a bobsled down a track, yet these movies inspired many hours constructing home made Hockey Sticks and Billy Carts and fanging around on Roller Blades or down some skits hill near my childhood home.
