Boonie Boonie Boony Boonie Boonie

Before the total domination of world cricket that Australia has enjoyed over the last 15 years the Aussie top order relied on the prowess of an unlikely looking hero from the Apple Isle

This man of course was David Clarence Boon, affectionatly known throughout the cricketing world as Boonie. With an elegant forward defense, a well constructed straight drive and extrordinary catching at short leg that often defied his physical build, Boonie was able to construct a long and successful career peering out from under the baggy green.

However it was for his exploits from beyond the crease that really cemented Boonies place as a cult hero, with a following that still endures today. With a moustache that makes every crappy Movember effort look like the Mocha stain it is and a taste for the electric soup that couldnt be quenched,it was obvious to every one that Boonie was the man, so much so that the ABC Up Late show declared him a dead set ledgend.

Some of Boonies most famous incidents involving getting off his tits include when He famously spewed on the pitch of the Adelaide oval in 1988 before going on to score 122 and winning man of the match and drinking a world record 52 cans of VB on a flight from Sydney to London before the 1989 Ashes series. This equates to about 20 litres or beer, what a man.

Last week i was lucky enough to get free members passes at the cricket and see the great man fanging around the pavillion with a beer in hand and a smile on his face. No wonmder they made a friging dole in his likeness. There will never be another Boonie
