On the eve of the biggest game of the year all i can think about is how frigging hectic are grand finals. Sport is one of those things that can capture the imagination and span cultural, religious and socio economic divides in a world that seems to be getting more and more segregated by the day. While when sport is mentioned a lot of the dudes i know pull out their best condescending tone and rattle off such claims as "dude fuck that shit", where else in contemporary society can be people be brought together in such pure and innocent excitement and joy. So while the little dudes in red and white who i have been backing all year didn't quite make the big one i will still be glued to my TV set sipping a beer and hoping those Parramatta fellas can take down those Storm Douches in the most dramatic and glorious circumstances possible. At the the inception of this post i was going to go down the road of the dichotomy of emotions winning and losing teams feel when they walk away from a decider, but i found this video from the 1997 grand final where and underdog team from Newy, featuring the best player in the world at the time, beat a star studded Manly lineup who were playing in their third consecutive grand final. Sounds pretty dam familiar to me, lets hope it keeps our teets on the edge of our seats like this one did 12 years ago
